BUT, please notice the water pitcher on the table, because she would cover it with a soft, elegant white on white embroidered linen napkin, to shield the water from dust. Monumental. These are gestures that characterize a person.

The Stella Tennent…..I was always so moved when she arrived for fittings because I secretly designed looks for her and was Drawn Into her Beauty and Energy. Sometimes I just wanted to impersonate Brando in Street Car Named Desire and just scream—- STELLA !!! Here she is in an Inquisition Infanta oh Black Silk Moire ( Taroni), yards and yards and yards of black Chantilly lace and torn, tortured, frayed silk chiffon. Her Massi Collar is a throat of Pave’ Micro Bugal Beads. Toile by the Master of Indantas— Madame Gail Gondek. I, and the entire world were in complete shock when Stella took her life.
One season I became obsessed with Arnoldo Pomodoro One season I became obsessed with Arnoldo Pomodoro….specifically his sculptures creating fissures… all surfaces fragmented to allow the viewer the understanding of fragility. Thus, we made day clothes and evening clothes. Here a black silk organza and tulle Sport Infanta. All black jet, micro bugal beads, and hanging threads both inside and outside of the cracked fissures. The Infanta toile created by the wonderous, tireless - Irina, and the art work by my Larisa.

Black Gandini Double Faced Wool / Silk, torn parts of fabric, then double faced cleaned, then hand sewn to transparent tulle foundations. Toiles mastered by Christine von Aesch, Art Direction by my staggeringly brilliant Larisa Ryzhova. All in harmony and reference to Franz Klein, and Robert Motherwell….. they were looks entered a new frontier.
I have always been much more excited and inspired I have always been much more excited and inspired by day clothes for the Couture… useful, simple, chic, but utterly luxurious through material, make, detail and at times the use of embroidery. Here, on the supremely divine Goddess— Jade Parfitt— An Ivory Double Faced Cashmere Coat, entirely embroidered with Chestnut French Knots Script in my hand writing… all quiet, but the story told on the coat was sometimes Capote, sometimes Tennessee Williams, sometimes the Cristobal Balenciaga obituary from WWD, and sometimes simply pornographic. The sweater in thin cashmere and silk and the vanilla cashmere pants—- all fabrics from my favorite mill in the world, Luigi Colombo. The owner, Roberto Colombo performed miracles for my work…. bless him.

Of course looking arresting IN the design, perhaps even causing a stir when entering a room, but also assisting the woman her own rite de passage into style.

Imagine yesterday in Heaven…. before being escorted to see God the Father, Andre’ screaming at him to review the guest list for dinner, and does he want to sit between Elizabeth and his Mother, or would he prefer a separate meal with either? Imagine, the great Valentino, moved so emotionally because all are dressed@in white, reminding him of his famous all white collection. Of course before dinner he will have a totally private cocktail with Mrs. Onassis. He has not stopped! My deepest sympathy goes out to the extraordinary family… Giancarlo, Bruce, Georgina, Carlos.

She has decided to leave… The Comtesse Jacquelin She has decided to leave… The Comtesse Jacqueline de Ribes… without question, the most chic, elegant, adventurous woman that I have had the honor to dress. And, her sense of humor was inspiring to all around her. But I also have to mention the way in which she held herself…. her poise, her grace…. her majesty. She would choose her couture in Paris, and then I would either fly back to fit toiles, or to fit actual garments. I would take a large three room suite at the Ritz, and my dear friend, Madame Alabaster would assist me in the fitting, since I could not afford an assistant from New York with all of the transatlantic costs. The reason for the mammoth suite is because Comtesse de Ribes would arrive with an entourage of three- four ladies in waiting carrying wig boxes, hat boxes, shoes, belts, sunglasses, and all sorts of accessories. I would move furniture around and create a large dining table in the center room to display her regalia, and to pull from, as if styling a collection. Thus, a two hour fitting would become an all day affair. One season she ordered a Black Velvet Coachman’s Coat with a Black Fox border. The coat was entirely embroidered in black jets, cut bugals, and hanging briolettes. Blanhik made matching boots and both the coat and the boots were embroidered by the great Francois Lesage, and his right arm, Etienne Leites. So Jacqueline was coming to New York, and we would have her fittings. We had a massive office then in Soho that my English Bulldog, Twombly, would control. Mind you he had perfect behavior. There was great fanfare that day with everyone so excited to witness this Divine Woman. As we were deep into tge fittings, she loved everything…. especially the boots. I forgot to mention that in her deep experience with couture, she taught me so very much. I did not realize it, but as we were all staring into the mirrors, Twombly walked up to her and lifted his leg against one boot! I swooped him up—- furiously embarrassed, and without missing a beat this other worldly deity turned to me and said,”Oh, if he likes the look, it must be divine, please do not be cross with him.” God Rest you Jacqueline, as the world worshipped you!
I like to live in my sanctuary alone, at times bei I like to live in my sanctuary alone, at times being feed by my guides, but always surrounded by spiritually infused objects and furniture…- all connecting a massive message to uncover. Often, it’s hard to leave.
